March on MARCH .

The title may be very confusing. But don't worry. As the blog entry progresses, you will understand it. Gets?

For the second time in history, I am going to march on March. You may wonder why it is only my second time. It is because when I was still in the Grade 6 level, the school decided to change its program. That's why, there was no graduation, which started in our batch. It was very disappointing since all of us were very excited. But thank God the school didn't do it again this time! If that will happen, I would be ultimately pissed! 

On March 19, 2012, we will march with happy smiles and laughters, but I would be sure that tears will be shed on this day. And for me, this would be one of those topsy-turvy moments wherein we experience joy, sadness, excitement, fear and ecstasy all in one. But HOPE lives within us and we are looking forward on what the future is in store for us.

I would like to end this entry, because I need to memorize my speech for our English activity. Wish me luck, guys!

Youth: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Affair

With the children today imitating popular teen icons, it's impossible nowadays to witness children playing happily on the pond and jumping with the rain. 

What a beautiful morning! With my classmates here, our dear Ms. Josephine Rose Manalili and to other invited guests, it is indeed a beautiful morning!

Listening to my music player completes my day. And as I grab my headphone and plug it on my phone, excitement rushes in my heart. But, I am confused on what to listen to. Chris Brown? No. It's too dark. LMFAO? No. It's too fast and upbeat. Justin Bieber? A big no. It's too childish. And as I shuffle my player, a song was suddenly played on TV which grabbed my attention. The chorus says: "we are young.." again and again. Upon listening to the song, a flashback of my early childhood years and how I spent them came in to me. Truly, those moments were eccentric yet unforgettable. As the song progresses, it tells me that being young is a gift.

Through the course of our youth, we learn many things beyond our imagination. Born from our curiosity within, we discover how things begin and how things might end, just like life. Our early years as an individual play an essential role in honing our future. Some say that being young also means being innocent. However, not all youngsters are innocent about things that happen around them. Their adventurous and courageous approach on life had helped them discover and understand on their own the wonders of life. And because they have enjoyed their youth, we can tell that they could likely have a bright and a pleasant life ahead of them. As far a I can observe nowadays, teenagers want to be with the trend of getting "matured" in an early stage. What I'm saying is that the youth nowadays make haste on being an adult. Well, I have nothing against the youth who become committed to an early stage, but sometimes it is not healthy in the development of one's self-identity. There were boys flirting with girls over there and girls wearing make up? What's the point of all of this?

Youth is one things we cannot get back. Youth is one things we can't claim if we get tired of being old. Don't try to grow up too fast because I believe that being an adult will just come naturally, and so does maturity. As time progresses, we will learn to make decisions, and that is one step away from being young.

And as the song marks its end, one things clings on my mind: let us enjoy the gift of being young, for God only allows us to be young once. We can't be young twice, or thrice, but if we enjoy our youth, we can remember and cherish those childhood moments forever. We are still young and through it, we can burn brighter than the sun. To sum it up, I would like to say that youth is like time. It is precious and if we afford to lose it, we can't take it back anymore. I would like to share a humorous, yet a very true quote from American writer, Dave Barry: "You can only be young once. But you can always be immature."

Lil' Lilies!

Green is clean, despite of its surroundings. As we were having our MIS-adventures in Julie's dungeon, I have found an interesting subject. According to her (Julie), these are water lilies. I wasn't quite sure since I only knew water lilies with big leaves floating around a pond. But this time, its different. These 'lilies' just stayed on a semi-wet portion of the 'basakan'. And it was very interesting to see such marvels, which we can't witness in the city. I was so delighted knowing that there are still things we have not yet discovered which nature can offer to us.

Favorite THE VOICE Contestants!

The heat of "The Voice" has been felt by many avid viewers! Its blind auditions are very unique and breathtaking! So, to start, I will introduce to you my favorite The Voice Blind Auditionees! These are not in order..






 1.) Kim Yarbrough - "Tell Me Something Good" - I really liked her performance! Her voice is very unique and she really enjoyed her performance. Good thing she joined Adam's team! 


2.) Angie Johnson - "Heartbreaker" - She's the girl who sang the "Rolling in the Deep (Military Version)"! Likewise, she is a military officer (?) and she's very talented. Her voice is very strong and she really pulled that through!


3.) Lindsey Pavao - "Say Aah" - Her voice is very unique which makes her special from others! For me, I think she is one of the standouts in the competition! She was very happy to be with Christina Aguilera's team!




4.) Jermaine Paul - "Complicated" - He gave another version of Avril Lavigne's famous song! It was very breathtaking and it was very entertaining!




5.) Angel Taylor - "Someone Like You" - Adele is too hot to handle these past few years. And for Angel, it was very effortless. Among Adam, Blake and Cee-Lo, she picked Adam, and it was a good decision to make!




6.) Sarah Golden - "You and I" - She may be masculine on the outside, but she is very talented, I think. She pulled this song like it's her own. She decided to be on Blake's team, and surely, it would help her improve her talent!




7.) Pip - "The House of the Rising Sun" - What a cute name! But do not underestimate his voice, because he have put a new twist to the song. And it was worth it. Another worthwhile decision is joining Adam's team!



8.) Chris Cauley - "Grenade" - His voice is very strong! He is very talented and he deserves to sing Bruno Mars' famous song. He also deserved to be on Adam's team!


9.) Jonathas - "U Got It Bad" - He grooves to the music as he sings Usher's popular hit. And no wonder, the girls on the studio went wild. Including Christina. And Jonathas picked her to be his coach.


10.) Naia Kete - "The Lazy Song" - One word: AMAZING! She sounds like Team Blake's Dia Frampton from Season 1, but she is more fun and more giggly on stage. I hope she reaches far in this competition. 


11.) Charlotte Sometimes - "Apologize" - She deserves a standing ovation! She sings with passion and sincerity. Those are the reasons why all four coaches pushed their button,and wanting her to be on their team. Only Blake succeeded on this, and now, Charlotte joins others who will be on Blake's care!


12.) Mathai - "Rumour Has It" - She is very beautiful! Not only that, her voice is also very beautiful! I like her onstage and I am very happy for her because she joins Adam's powerhouse team!

Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tock. Every time wasted waiting for you, is every time you have lost. From what you've done to me, this time, I'll be bulletproof. Stop Animation.

No no no! I'm not saying to STOP animation. Perhaps, it may be the best thing we could enjoy. I'm pertaining to the style called STOP animation. Whew! (Sometimes we need to explain for others to understand). 






We are planning to use this kind of style, since it is easy, and we don't need a lot of actors or scripts. We just need a camera, and several drawings that we could animate. We are planning to use this in our Computer project. And we cross our fingers that it may work. And it may look good. And it may look nice! Argh! I have so many frustrations about this! I hope we could patch this up before the Sunday ends! I swear to every body that we would strive to be exempted from the exam. I hope so. We hope so. 




To my groupmates, let us altogether, CROSS OUR FINGERS! Not raise our middle finger!


 

NEW DIRECTION wins!

Nope. I'm not talking 'bout the debate we had just participated later in the day. And nope! I'm not talking 'bout One Direction.

As the third season of Glee progresses, I am continuously amazed by the talents of the New Direction. No doubt, they deserve to win the Regionals. Ha-ha. Those Warblers ain't got nothing! They tried to control the New Directions. That even didn't work. Boo-hoo! Good thing is, Sebastian admitted his mistakes and even cheered for the New Directions when they performed. 



 On the other hand, I really liked the mash-up of Fly by Nicki Minaj feat. Rihanna and I Believe I Can Fly by R.Kelly. It was epic! I haven't heard such mash-up for a very long time! Two thumbs up, Glee Clubbers. Til next time!

T'was NERVE-CRACKING .

Just as what I have expected. The defense we had was very nerve-cracking. And I was very frustrated to answer questions to us. And if every time they ask us questions that can be found already on our research, I was like, "Oh, please. Just refer to the papers!" Despite all of that, we have successfully ended our defense, with contentment and also relief that we have already finished this process.

Every question being thrown to us were very hard to answer. Those were the times when I want to run away and never come back. Those were the times when the silence was very deafening. Those were the times when you want to cry, but, of course you can't. You really can't.

But thank God! We have finished it today. We won't have to worry so much about that. And we need to think more about the incoming projects we need to do. So, it's a HARD KNOCK LIFE FOR US! 

 

GLEEK SPOTLIGHT: Rachel Berry

The show wouldn't be complete without this hungry-for-fame woman. She is kinda bizarre, yet when she starts to open her mouth to sing, we would surely open our mouths too (in awe!). 

"I need applause to live", Rachel Berry always says as she encourage her other Glee Clubbers to give to her the spotlight. She is very persevering, and always gets what she wants (for short, she's kind of a spoiled brat!). 

Her two gay dads have supported them all the way, and her biological mother, Shelby Corcoran, is very proud of her achievements. As she ends her high school life with her on-and-off boyfriend, Finn Hudson, she embarks on the journey to Nationals.

Invasion Unlike Any Other .

Forget about the aliens invading Earth. Forget about the world coming to an end. Here's an invasion that will blow off your mind!


When I hear these kinds of songs on my stereo, I can't help dancing with the beat. Every melody seems like an energizer reinvigorating my energy. Well, what I've heard was probably the music from the kimchi land. Korean Pop, widely known to many as K-POP, visited our country like a tidal wave. Even though we get tongue tied pronouncing the lyrics, still, we accepted it. but the invasion didn't stop there. Most teenagers, especially girls, consider K-POP as a source of their fashion statement. They express themselves under the great influence of K-Pop. From wholesome and fierce girl groups, to the charming and endearing boy bands, K-Pop continues to amaze, not only Filipinos, but also people around the globe, through their musicality and originality.


But we must bare in mind a very important thing: Our own music, the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) mustn't be neglected or abandoned. Loving a foreign idea is sociable and good. But loving our own is the best thing we can give to ourselves.

"Z" No More?

Zebra. Zoo. Zigzag. What do they have in common?


It seems like the English Alphabet would lose its last letter. Surprising as it may sound to you, the poor, lonely "z" just like the puny Pluto, will be down on its final curtain. The final letter, "z"'s history includes a time when the letter was seldom used. This shocking announcement came from the English Language Central Commission (ELCC) last June 1st. The main objective of this was to simplify the phonetic aspect of the language. Unifying the American and British spellings is another aim for this shocking twist in the alphabet.



And the big question now is...What will happen to the words that have a letter z in them? According to the ELCC, words that started with a "z" will now start with an "x". Therefore, zero will now be spelled X-E-R-O. On the other hands, words that featured a letter z in them with the "s" sound will now be officially written with the "s". So, visualize will now be, V-I-S-U-A-L-I-S-E. The letter z was not always the final letter of the modern English Alphabet. For several years, the ampersand (&) which is sometimes used to replace the word and in sentences.  



However, due to the vagueness of the details about announcement, it is unsure whether the implementation of "z"'s departure would be final. It will be hard for us to adapt since the letter z has been playing an essential role in terms of communication. Well, all we can say for now is the English Alphabet is like a human body. If one is missing, the whole function and purpose of the thing would become trash.

BULLYING: A Raging Problem

Bully, as defined by the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary is "one who hurts or intimidates others." Bullying has been prevalent not only in Western culture, but also in our culture. Either physically or verbally abused a student is, bullying is undeniably creating its own mark in the center among educators. Accepting the fact that there aren't enough laws protecting students against campus bullying, controlling and implementing disciplinary actions are now the challenge educators should take regarding this predicament.

Bullying starts through teasing and creating ridiculous things towards the person. Some cases even become worse, when physical abuse is already utilized. But, worst of all, victims may suffer trauma and may also bully other student to release anger and revolt. Due to this problem, there is an enormous challenge among teachers in finding solutions for preventing bullying.

How should schools handle and address this timely predicament?

This is an example of an acrostic. It is a kind of patterned poetry when the first letters of the words (e.g. RAINBOW), was connected by different words and sentences to express the word deeply.

Too Emotional .

People tend to be emotional when push comes to shove, when problems start bugging, or when sadness visits. For me, I really don't like people who are very emotional. They irritate me. They make me wanna cry. But I don't want to. I just want to see everyone wear their smiles and walk with content and ecstasy. I don't want to see people crying, or shouting, or fighting, or weeping. I want the world to be what I think of. But I think it's impossible. 

Human as we are, it is natural for us to think emotionally, because it's very impossible to keep your real feelings when you do not cry. I doesn't mean that if we cry, we are weak. It only shows that we are strong enough to face the fact that we are human beings and we are fragile. To those who cry out their sorrow and despair to feel better..guess what? You're not alone! Researchers said that 8.8 percent of people feel better after crying. So, grab your tissue now and cry your heart out! 

As I make this post, I remember a girl, who is a damsel in distress, yet she finds hope that everything could make sense for the near future. Ha-ha, peace!

DIBORSIYO: Banta sa Pamilyang Pilipino

            Oktubre noong nakaraang taon, opisyal na naging legal ang diborsiyo sa bansang Malta sa Europa. Ibig sabihin, dalawang bayan na lamang sa buong mundo ang walang “divorce bill” – ang Vatican City at ang Pilipinas. Hindi na kataka-taka ang pananatiling pagbabawal ng diborsiyo sa ating bansa dahil  hanggang sa kasalukuyan, litaw pa rin ang impluwensiya at kapangyarihan ng Simbahang Katoliko. Ayon kay Agapay (2005), ang kasal ay isang kasunduan na kung saan ang dalawang taong nag – iibigan ay gumagawa ng isang “partnership” sa buong buhay nila. Bagamat may “annulment” sa bansa, nananatiling habambuhay ang bisa ng kasal para sa nakararaming Pilipino.  

            Maraming epekto ang mararansan ng mga Pilipino kung sakali mang ipatutupad ang nasabing “bill”. Hindi naman lingid sa ating kaalaman na dumaranas ng kahirapan ang ating bansa. Hindi kaya mas mahihirapan ang mga mag – asawang Pilipino na maghiwalay kung ang halaga ng prosesong ito ay mahigit sa isang milyon (Borden, 1996)? Hindi lamang sa pinansiyal na aspeto mahihirapan ang mga mag-asawang Pilipino kung ipatutupad ang “divorce bill”, kundi pati na rin sa usaping emosyonal at pampamilya. Ayon naman kay Wood (2011), malaking epekto ang mararansan ng kanilang mga anak, lalong lalo na ang mga maliliit na bata, dahil maaari nilang paniwalaan na sila ang dapat sisihin sa paghihiwalay ng kani-kanilang mga magulang. Kahit na mabilis ang prosesong ito, ‘di naman maikakaila na pangmatagalang ang pinsalang hatid nito sa isang pamilyang Pilipino. Pinapaala lamang ng Simbahang Katoliko sa buong sambayanang Pilipino na ang pagsabak sa pag - aasawa ay hindi isang biro at nangangailangan ito ng dedikasyon. Addiction: TEMPLE RUNNNNN!

A game with breath-taking effects and rules. At first, I was shocked of how the game goes on, but I have managed to learn it and it wasn't that easy as I expected. 


This game is called "TEMPLE RUN", a game which I usually played on the iPod of my sister. Its main objective: run as fast as you can without being eaten by those demonic monkeys! And here's the twist: there are obstacles in the game, like a fire structure, a spiky structure, enormous tree roots and trees with big roots having tunnels. 


At first, I was like:"Is that all? This is so rubbish!" But I didn't mind that I was really into it. I was addicted, for short! The different characters added to the excitement to the game. There were also power-ups like mega-coin at 150 points, coin magnet, invisibility lasting to 30 seconds, 2-point coin starts at 1000 meters and 3-point coin starts at 2000 meters and boosts works for 1000 meters! How cool is that! After the addiction of many of us, from Plants vs Zombies, to Angry Birds, Temple Run is surely next in line for being a trending and addicting game!
